Review : Best Friends (In Bed #1) by Kelex

Title : Best Friends
Series : In Bed book 1
Author : Kelex
Genre(s) : Contemporary gay romence, LGBTQ+
Publication Date : March 12th 2018
My Rating(s) : 3.5 out of 5 Stars

Five old college buddies drifting away from one another…

One last chance to get things right…

Jesse’s friends are falling apart. Adam and Clay are at odds—again. Benji is growing more distant. And don’t even get him started on his lady’s man best friend. Hayden’s partying and screwing has become a noticeable problem. Jesse figures they all need a night out—together—to bring them back to where they’d been.

Adam and Clay arrive and refuse to speak to one another. Benji has brought along a new friend he’s more interested in. And Hayden shows up with an older woman draped over him like a cheap suit.

Jesse’s incensed—it was supposed to be a guy’s night!

He watches the pair of them, anger growing as he can’t help but witness Hayden and the woman—and all their PDAs. It makes him sick, seeing that woman touching his… his… his best friend.

By the end of dinner, Jesse’s ready to toss in the towel and call it a night. The check arrives with a pile of fortune cookies. Each person at the table grabs one, and their unwanted guest reminds them they need to add in bed to the end of their fortunes.

Jesse never counted on her being right—or that his fortune would come true.

In bed.

I must admit that the blurb is kinda confusing, but I get the impression that this short story will enjoyable enough to read since it's about my favorite trope friends-to-lovers and also gay-for-you. So, I decided to give this book a try.

And as I thought before, the story was kinda confusing at first when the author trying to introduce ALL characters that will have a chance to be featured in the next book in the series. So my suggestion is read it carefully and try to remember the name and the hints of their problems that possibility will be on their book IF you have the intention to continue with the other book in this series.

As the opening, this book will focus on Jesse and Hayden story. Since their first 'encounter' together eight years ago at the party, Jesse cannot forget the 'accidentally jerk session' he and Hayden had back then. For years Jesse must buried deep his feeling for his housemate since he assume Hayden is straight.

Their friendship still lasted even years after their graduate but then start to drift apart when Jesse start to feel Hayden keep avoiding him and 'busy' with his wild encounter with all the ladies.

Can't stand anymore with what Hayden's sexual activities with different women each night, Jesse decided to also put a distance to keep his wounded heart from bleeding even more.
Until one night, drunken Hayden suddenly came to his house and kiss him...

And then all the drama begin...
Can they both finally realized the 8 years of foolishness they'd made and solve the misunderstanding between them?

In a very short story, this book has successfully stole my attention. And now I cannot wait to read the next story in this series...

Abandoned by his first love and betrayed by his pack, Josh has sworn off packs and is content to raise his son alone. The last thing he was expecting was for an injured alpha to knock on his door. Against his better judgment, he gives them a place to stay. It’s meant to be temporary, but as he grows closer to a certain kind and alluring alpha, he starts to question his solitary life and what is really best for his son.

The plan was simple; travel from pack to pack, find a mate, and start his life. A faulty bridge and a broken foot put that plan on hold. Brighton is reluctant to burden the mysterious omega living in the forest, but under the omega’s care and charm, he wonders if he found the future he desperately wants after all.

But someone is watching them. Someone who Josh never thought he'd see again. Will Brighton and Josh admit their feelings for each other? Will they unite in time to stop this threat?

Well, I jumped into the story without knowing that the book was actually a spin-off from another series. So, yes. This is my first Ruby Nox's book and surprisingly... I like it!

Abandoned Omega was a sweet-heartwarming Mpreg story about Josh, a loner omega who lived with his son in the middle of the wood without any pack who protect them. Josh past has teach him to trust no one especially an alpha, because his life had ruined by an asshole alpha years ago.

So when four strangers alpha suddenly appeared in front his door, the first instinct Josh had is to prepare for the worst and ready to face the brutal confrontation. But when he know that one of the alpha was badly injured, he then offer them to stay at his house for the night and took care the wounded alpha and his fellows.

In short time Josh and his son, start to grow such a sweet relationship with the four alpha.
With Brighton still in recovery conditions, the rest of his friends then offer to help Josh fixing the house and the smokehouse in return for Josh kindness.

With time passes, Brighton who already has the feeling for Josh and his son right from the first time he saw him want to fully protect him. He see the family he'd been craved for so long in Josh and his son, but Josh seems to keep avoiding Brighton intention and push him away. Brighton then decided to leave Josh and bring his broken heart to the near pack to heal. But then something happen to Josh...

When Brighton know that Josh life is in danger, his wolf scream with anger to safe his omega no matter if it's also coat his life...

When I first saw this book and read the blurb, I didn't expect anything aside from looking for some light fresh reading to kill the time. And its indeed surprise me when it ended with I enjoying the story this much.
And now I'm curios about the other alpha in Brighton little circle. Will they also find their own omega and have the HEA?

Can't wait for Kira story!

Review : Half a Million Dead Cannibals by Kari Gregg

Author : Kari Gregg Kari Gregg
Genre(s) : Gay Romance, LGBTQ+, Fantasy, Paranormal, Zombie Apocalypse
Published : September 28th 2017 (First published March 4th 2013)
My Rating : 4 out of 5 Stars

All that’s keeping Riley from the man he’s falling in love with are the ruins of a city filled with half a million dead cannibals.

Strangers, Riley and Graham sheltered together in a basement storage unit when the zombie outbreak slammed into the world three months ago. They lived through the first blast of the plague, but they may not last much longer among survivors scrambling for dwindling resources. They agree to hike from the city and to the safety of the mountains. They didn’t count on the storm they hoped would cover their exit developing into a Nor’easter, though, and they sure didn’t think their visibility would shrink so badly that they’d hike into the leading edge of a zombie swarm, either. In the chaos of escaping the ravenous horde, they are separated, with Graham racing toward feral dog packs to the east and Riley sprinting to hostile survivors hunting them to the west.

Nobody said finding and keeping a quality guy (alive) during the apocalypse would be easy.

In the ruins of civilization after the zombie apocalypse, there were no tomorrows. Riley believed that with Graham at his side the wispy hope of a tomorrow didn’t feel as doomed and distant...

For a short story, this book has it all. The tensions was there right from the start and very intense.

Riley was on his running from the chaos caused by the zombie attacks when he accidentally meet Graham. The two then find a safe place on a basement. Together they lived there for weeks until the food supplies they have from the café basement start to run out.

The choices then to stay and die or go find another safe shelter and find food to keep survive, which that means they must out from their safe zone and facing the zombies.

The journey to find the safe place and keep survive feels so intense enough to make you hold your breath more then once. The romance the author put on the story between the scary moments feels right and could light up the situations. And that what make the story enjoyable enough to read in one sit.

ARC Review : Mister Cinderella by Ivy Oliver

Author : Ivy Oliver Ivy Oliver
Genre(s) : Contemporary, Gay Romance, M/M Romance, LGBTQ+, Light D/s
Published : April 2nd 2018
My Rating(s) : 3 out of 5 Stars

Never fall for a charming Prince...

Harry-freaking-Prince. He’s my arrogant, demanding, sexy-as-sin boss. A six-foot giant who micromanages his lattes. If he asks me to redo his coffee one more time, I’ll throw it in his face.

Prince is a pain in my you-know-what—but that’s wishful thinking. There’s no way he’s into me, except he won’t let me out of his sight. Before long, Prince makes his intentions clear with a kiss.

He wants to blur the lines between work and play, but it has to stay a secret.

In exchange for my silence, I’ll get a new apartment, a rack full of designer suits, date nights at swanky restaurants, anything I want. Anything except for what I need. A real relationship with him.

I promised him I would keep it quiet. I promised myself I wouldn’t fall in love.

Well, I'll not sugar coating my review just because I got the privileged reading the ARC given by the author for the exchange of honest and unbiased reviews.
So, I'll be straight forward with my review.

I have this huge expectations that it gonna be such a sweet 'Pretty Woman-Cinderella' like story, but turned out it's not!

The premise of the story at the very beginning was really good and intriguing. But as I dig the story more deeper I found that it's not like what I expected.

The lack of emotional connections between the two MC's still continue until nearly end of the book. There's no specific nor further explanation about Harry 'behavior' except constants lust, alpha dominating and blurred PTSD.

Speaking about the chemistry...
Chemistry between the characters supposed to be feel, not to tell.
And in this case...I didn't feel it...

It turned me complete down at 49% reading when Harry suddenly 'punished' Ash by spanking him in the office trailer that caught me off guard because I didn't expected any BDSM things even if it's just light one.

The conflicts a bit blurred and out of focus when it came into Harry's ex-work partner/lover, Rex. And how they solved it make me can't stand not to rolls my eyes.

It hard for me to say whether I like or dislike the book. I wish I could say that the book was 'that' good, but I can't. I wish I could say that the book was not 'that' good, but again I just can't. Because I must admit that honestly there's some part that I do really like about what happens in the story, but I just can't denied that there's also some part that I feel it didn't work for me.

Last but not least, I think the blurb kinda 'misleading' a bit, and that's why I felt kind disappointed.

But will Cal listen to him and freed himself?

🍁🍁🍁

The story captivated me. The writing mesmerized me. And the story consumed me and leave me speechless....

The story was sad and dark but also beautiful at the same time. My heart broke for Cal and still bleeds for him. Even the tears still flowing as I write this review....

This book had ruined me without mercy...

I know it just a fiction, but the feels is raw and so real. The anger and the sadness I felt for what had happen and the damage that caused all the bitterness that engulfed the MC's was so real. I want to cast my anger and hit something to push out all the emotions I try to endured during the reading...
But in the end, what I can only do is just crying...

I didn't want to spoil ANYTHING about the story. It's way too precious to be ruined by any spoilers. If you want to know and curious about the story, better you find out what actually happen by yourself, but please take the warning seriously and read it with your own risk.

This is that kind of book that will stay in your heart forever because the sadness won't leave you even after you finished the book...

“Do you want me gone? I can go away, if you want.”

“Could you go?” For the first time in days, he reached for me. “No, you can’t go away,” he said softly. “I thought about asking you. I can’t. So don’t lie to me. You can’t, either.”

Highly Recommended with serious warning!

Review : New Heights by Quinn Anderson

Title : New Heights
Author : Quinn Anderson
Genre(s) : Contemporary Gay Romance, LGBTQ+
Published : March 12th 2018
My Rating : 4 out of 5 Stars

After attending a friend’s wedding in New York, James Thompson is eager to go home, even though no one will be waiting for him at the gate. He has no expectations for his trip back to Charleston other than long lines, security, and bad airplane food. But when an annoying—albeit hot—stranger cuts him in line, James is determined not to be a pushover for once.

For Mika “It’s Mee-kuh, not Micah” Bailey, today’s just another day of boring work travel. That is, until his flight gets delayed, and some irritating (but handsome) guy keeps hogging all the good power outlets. Which means war. In the middle of an airport. In New York. What could go wrong?

Eventually, they declare a truce, and as they get to know each other, their attraction overwhelms them both. Terrified of what he’s feeling, Mika suggests a no-strings hookup, but serial-monogamist James wants more. If they don’t fight for what’s right in front of them, their romance might be canceled before it ever takes off.

The story begin with James who arrived so early at the airport on his way back to Charleston just to find out that the flight got delayed for few hours. As if that's not enough, then come a guy who cut the line and snaked the last charger at the charging station he'd been waiting for half an hour without even feels sorry.

Even the guy look so deliciously handsome, but to James he just 'a Rude Headphones Guy' to him because what he just did to him. And that's mean a war!

Mika (It’s Mee-kuh, not May-kuh!) thought that he will be missed his flight due to the traffic at the rush hour. But when he arrived at the airport within last minute just to find out that his flight just got delayed.

Joining with the sea of another passengers whose flight also got delayed, Mike then took seat near the charger station and plugged his phone to the charger. His act then got protest from a guy who insisted that he'd been there early and was in the next line to charge his phone when Mika cut his line.

The guy looks handsome with his blond hair and smile which remind him of the guy from Colgate guy commercial. Even feels a bit sorry for what he'd doing and had made the guy stare his dead glare to him after that, but there's something in that Colgate guy who catch his attention that want him to tease him more.

But when the Colgate guy cast his 'revenge' by 'humiliated' him in public and 'steal' his USB cord, that's mean a war!

And that's how this fun and light story begin...

Well, I can say that it's love at the first fight.

The book cover looks cute and caught my attention and the blurb seems adorable and tickling the curiosity in me. So, I decided to pick the book and read in in one sit.

The story was hilarious funny at almost the whole part, the friendnemies-to-lovers totally filled the air and could put a smile on your face almost the entire reading, the romance was good, the sexual tensions was high (but nothing had happen until the very last chapter), the pace is good with adorkable and lovely characters, and it's all put together in a good writing.

How the author slowly start the story with funny and almost 'child-like-tug-of-war' and prank between the two MC's and then moved to a truce moment and then ends up talking for hours and working through issues they’ve been struggling with for years, everything feels so smooth and natural.
And that what's make the story feels enjoyable enough to read.

James and Mika had come together like puzzle pieces. And I recommended this fun-light reading to all!
